How to Make Your Office Relocation Easier and Less Stressful

Blog

Relocating can be an exciting time for any business. It often allows you to expand and have the ability to take advantage of new business opportunities. While a move to a new office location can be exciting, it can also be very stressful. If you are looking to make the transition easier, there are a few steps that you can take during the process that are designed to lessen the hassles that you face once the office relocation is complete.

Change of Address

You might assume that you do not have to deal with changing the address of your business until the move is complete, but this is the wrong approach to take. It is never too early to begin organizing the details of your address change once you have decided on the specific location where your office will be relocating. You can begin right away by ordering new letterhead with your new updated address and also begin communicating with existing clients about the upcoming address change. It is also important to update all business sites with new address information as soon as it is relevant to clients. If you organise these details early on, it will not be a major issue once the move is complete.

Coordinate Electronics

When it comes to details involving the actual packing of equipment, electronics can be the most tedious items to pack. Packing up your electronic items can often be the most time consuming task associated with packing up your office due to the amount of cords and wires that are used. You should be sure to remove all cords from your computer or electronic devices. You can then place a sticker on the electronic device that corresponds to a sticker that you place on a zip lock bag. In the coordinated zip lock bag, you can place all cords that are designed for that specific device. This will enable you to stay organised during your office move and save time when you are setting up your office equipment. Be sure to write down any special dismantling instructions that will save you time when you are reassembling office devices.

Contingency Planning

It is important that you remove all risk of data loss during your office relocation by making sure that all data is secure and that all files and software are backed up properly. It is also important to have a plan of action in place that can be used in the incidence of failed IT systems once you arrive in your new office location.

Storing my family heirlooms

After my parents passed away I inherited a lot of bulky furniture items that have been in my family for many generations. My current inner city flat is nowhere near big enough for it so I rented out a storage unit. Sometimes I head out to the storage lot just to look through it and remember them. Luckily the furniture has stayed in great condition and one day when I finally get a big family home, I'll be able to have it all on display. I spent a lot of time researching the best way to store vintage furniture long term, and it's all on my site. Enjoy!
