How To Interview Your Removalist

Blog

A professional and experienced removalist will significantly ease your office or home removals. This extract discusses a few questions to help you interview your removalist.

Can You Execute The Move?

The number of items and their destination will determine whether the removalist can handle the move. For instance, some removalists are not qualified to conduct interstate and international removals. Ideally, you should examine the removalist's equipment and vehicles to know whether he or she can transport your items. Additionally, you should check previous customer reviews to establish the removalist's professionalism.

How Will You Prepare For Removals?

Below are a few ways to prepare for removals:

  • The removalist should conduct a house inspection to determine the equipment and vehicles required to move your items. For instance, he or she may need a forklift to lift heavy furniture and grand pianos.
  • The professional should help you declutter your home and dispose of furniture, electronics and clothes that you may not need.
  • He or she should assess your home and identify suitable parking space to park the removals truck.
  • The removalist should inform you of your obligations. For instance, you may be required to provide packing boxes and accommodation for long-distance removals.

What Services Will You Provide?

Complimentary services will ensure stress-free removals. For example, some removalists will offer to arrange items in your new premises. The removalist may or may not provide storage services. If you are on a budget, you could opt for removal companies that offer portable storage containers and backloading services. Some removalists will organise special transport for valuable items such as your safe, paintings and jewellery. They could also transport your pets. As a rule, the professional must provide a removal insurance cover.

What Are Your Terms?

Most people will forget to evaluate the removalist's terms and conditions. As a result, they get disappointed after the removals. Most removalists will ask you to be punctual on the removals day. Otherwise, they will charge a penalty. Check the removalists cancellation policy. Some professionals will charge a slight fine if you cancel your booking a few hours before the removals.

Compare the pricing of several reputable removalists. Typically, you will pay more if you require a wide range of services. Do not forget to take advantage of discounts. For instance, some removalists will give discounts to first time customers, referrals, senior adults, the disabled and people that belong to specific professions. They will also offer seasonal and low-season discounts.

When choosing a removalist, assess their ability to execute the move, the removal preparation protocol, the available services, the terms and pricing of the removalist.

Storing my family heirlooms

After my parents passed away I inherited a lot of bulky furniture items that have been in my family for many generations. My current inner city flat is nowhere near big enough for it so I rented out a storage unit. Sometimes I head out to the storage lot just to look through it and remember them. Luckily the furniture has stayed in great condition and one day when I finally get a big family home, I'll be able to have it all on display. I spent a lot of time researching the best way to store vintage furniture long term, and it's all on my site. Enjoy!
